As with any holiday, New Orleans starts celebrating early for Independence Day! We’ve got a fun list of ways to enjoy the nation’s birthday Big Easy-style. Make it a 5-day weekend and just stay with us for all the festivities!
On Saturday, visit the world-renowned opens in a new windowWorld War II Museum. You can spend the entire day just going through all the exhibits, including the very popular “Beyond All Boundaries” at The Solomon Victory Theater, a 4D experience narrated by Tom Hanks. You can also stay for dinner at the The American Sector Restaurant + Bar, which offers “New Orleans Best Happy Hour from 4-7pm every night.
On Sunday, it’s a great day for Brunch, specifically the opens in a new windowGospel Brunch at the House of Blues. You choose your brunch favorites from a huge, all-you-can-eat buffet, including the world-famous Chicken and Waffles, while enjoying a rollicking concert of traditional and contemporary Gospel favorites performed by local New Orleans artists.
Monday isn’t quite the fourth, but it’s the day to be out and about before the big bash in the park! City Park presents the yearly opens in a new window3rd of July celebration, with concessions starting at 5 so you can get your belly full of all that wonderful food like hotdogs, corndogs and waffle fries, beer, wine, ice cream, and spiked and regular versions of lemonade, and Sneauxballs. The Marine Corps Band New Orleans starts playing all your patriotic favorites at 7pm, and around 9pm, the fireworks begin.
New Orleans puts on a show like none other for Independence Day – head to Woldenberg Riverfront Park for opens in a new windowGo 4th on the River – an exciting experience, especially this year, as the 26th anniversary is commemorated with the General Roy S. Kelley fireboat, which will return to the river for its famed water show with plumes of red, white, and blue fountains beginning at 6:00pm. At 9, the big show begin – dueling barges firing off magnificent fireworks over the mighty Mississippi river – it’s the most incredible spectacle in the state!
After all the excitement, head back to opens in a new window1896 O’Malley House for a great night’s sleep, followed by an incredible breakfast – Happy Fourth of July!!
