Art for Art’s Sake in New Orleans – October 5, 2013

New Orleans is the place to be for artists of all sorts – and Art for Art’s Sake is the perfect party for both artists and art-lovers! This event happens the first Saturday every October, so this year the street party is October 5th. This is the perfect way to end a busy day of sightseeing in New Orleans when you are staying at 1896 O’Malley House Bed and Breakfast.

Art for Art’s Sake is an art festival where galleries in the Warehouse Arts District and on Magazine Street are open from 6-9pm. Whether you are interested in browsing locally created paintings, sculptures, and photos or are looking for a valuable addition to your collection – everyone is welcome. Along the 5-6 mile stretch of Magazine Street, you’ll find boutiques and gift shops, as well as food and beverages stands along the street.

To extend the evening, you can reserve a table in a nearby restaurant.  You might try Walk-On’s Bistreaux and Bar – a sports bar featuring delicious pub fare with New Orleans flair!  You might also enjoy the late night menu at Lucy’s Retired Surfer’s Bar & Restaurant which is also a Louisiana exclusive but with a surfer twist.

Feel like more art?  Attend the special reception at the Contemporary Arts Center – which will host a party till midnight. Admission to this party is $10 and allows you to explore new exhibits and enjoy live music.

It’s the greatest art event of the year in New Orleans – and everyone is welcome. Wear showed you don’t mind walking in, and enjoy the atmosphere of a sophisticated New Orleans street party!
