New Orleans Events and Things to Do for May 2016

New OrleansMay in New Orleans is great! It’s still reasonably cool, hurricane season is still far off, the Mardi Gras crowds are long gone, and there are still a ton of fun events and things to do!

The biggest event in May, after the Jazz Festival, is opens in a new windowBayou Boogaloo. This year’s festival is on the weekend of May 20-22, and is held along Bayou Saint John at Orleans Avenue and North Jefferson Davis Parkway. There will be four different stages so you can walk around and listen to a bunch of bands while sampling all the delicious foods from the vendors. You can even sit on the bank and dangle your tootsies in the bayou. A separate area is dedicated to local artists displaying their wares in  booths. Free admission!

The next week, May 26-29, is the Wine & Food Experience. The event takes place at different venues throughout the city. Many restaurants, galleries and wineries take part in the W&FE. Some of the things going on are dinners, wine tastings, the Royal Street Stroll and the Big Gateau Show. The Greek Fest will be May 27-28 at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral. You can sample all sorts of Greek delicacies, listen to traditional Greek music and even learn how to dance like you see in the movies. Opa! Cost to enter is $7, children 12 and under free.
