New Orleans Is For Everyone!

new-orleans-city-streets-DT31878007New Orleans is not just Mardi Gras. Regrettably, the image of this incredible city is, to some minds, a place of debauchery and just not a spot for your family to visit and enjoy – but we are so much more than booze, beads and boobs! Let me tell you about the wonderful attractions in and around New Orleans and things to do beyond the bars and bros.

A great place to visit is the opens in a new windowNational World War II Museum. It’s Tripadvisor’s number one rated New Orleans attraction, for good reason. Rather than wandering through dry exhibits, you are treated to an interactive experience that really allows you to immerse yourself in the history of “the Big One”, including a thrilling recreation of the final mission of the submarine USS Tang. BB’s Stage Door Canteen has shows reminiscent of the WWII era, and even a swing dance on Sunday afternoons, with pros to show you the ropes before you take to the floor.

Another wonderful historical tour spot is opens in a new windowLongue Vue House and Gardens. The historic estate was built between 1939-1942, with eight acres of gardens. The docents are famous for their extensive knowledge, so the tours are excellent. You will see amazing art pieces throughout. There are different exhibitions going on, with interactive parts for the adults and the kiddos. You’ll want to devote 2 hours at the very least, and make sure to catch a cab back to 1896 O’Malley House, your feet will thank you!

One more family fun spot – the opens in a new windowAudubon Zoo. The zoo is incredible, with so many exhibits and exciting animals to visit. You can purchase an armband to ride the train around the zoo, getting on and off when you wish, which is especially nice when it’s hot out. Bring your swimsuits to enjoy a great new feature: “Cool Zoo”, a splash park within the zoo that includes special spots for the littles, lots of water cannons, beaches and a lazy river.

Don’t let that tired old image of NOLA sway you – although the nightlife is fantastic if that’s what you’re after – families of all kinds will find plenty of remarkable attractions and places to see and experience in the Crescent City!
