New Orleans Oktoberfest, October 2013

Fall is here – and with it comes milder temperatures, changing leaves, and BEER!  Enjoy lots of beer along with good German food, music, and lots of activities for three weekends in October.  That’s right – it’s time for Oktoberfest!  Oktoberfest is organized every year by Deutsches Haus, known as The German Presence in New Orleans.

Enjoy Oktoberfest 2013 during the weekends of October 11-12, 18-19, and 25-26.  Each of those weekends Oktoberfest happens on Fridays from 4-11 pm and Saturdays from 1-11 pm.  After the party, return to 1896 O’Malley House Bed and Breakfast, just a short drive away, to rest up from the events and rejuvenate for another full day of exploring NOLA.

Each day of Oktoberfest you can enter into a $500 Cash Door Prize, the drawing will be held October 26.  You do not need to be present to win.  Also, every day at 6:30, 7:30 and 9:30  you can participate in the Masskrugstemmen which is a Beer Stein Holding Contest.  Can you beat the current record of 20 min 19 sec?

Other events include:
Saturday, October 12 – Dachshund Races:  Who can resist those tiny little legs racing to the finish line!  Proceeds from this event go to a good cause, NOLA Dachshund Rescue.

Saturday, October 19 – Oktoberfest 5K Run/Walk:  This is the first annual Oktoberfest 5K, and is organized by the New Orleans Track Club.  Entry into the race includes admission to Oktoberfest after the race, so you can refuel.  So whether you are an avid runner or enjoy a brisk walk – you’ll enjoy this course.

Saturday, October 26 – Wine Tasting of Wines of Europe:  Beer isn’t the only think that Oktoberfest is about, check out wines from Germany, Austria, and the Alsace region.  The wine tasting is $30 per person – and a ticket to the wine tasting includes admission to Oktoberfest.  What more could you want?

Don’t miss the fun, and we look forward to hearing all about it at the inn.  Bis später!
