New Year in New Orleans!

Champagne pouring into a flute glassJanuary is possibly the best time to visit New Orleans, if your focus is more rest and less fest. The weather can be rainy, but much warmer than most parts of the US, and the crowds have yet to descend for Mardi Gras. Here are some fun things to do in the first week or so of January in NOLA.

If you haven’t gotten your opens in a new windowtickets yet, you still have time to grab a few before they are sold out. More than just the game, you can come 3 hours prior to take part in Fan Jam, which includes interactive entertainment, including pep rallies for both teams with the bands and cheerleaders, as well as music from KARMA.

This amazing Con is widely attended by some big names in TV, movies and comics. You can meet the creators, see some incredible cosplay, attend panels and workshops, and just geek out in general!

opens in a new windowJanuary 6, 2019 – Krewe of Joan de Arc Parade
Each year on Jon of Arc’s birthday, a walking parade is held in the French Quarter. This year, the parade begins at Jax Brewery at the corner of Toulouse and Decatur at 6pm, and ends back on Decatur, pausing for toasts from the Williams Research Center balcony, a sword blessing at St. Louis Cathedral, and ending with the crowning of the King, and King Cake Ceremony.

opens in a new windowJanuary 6, 2019 – Phunny Phorty Phellows Herald Mardi Gras
The Phunny Phorty Phellows, or PPP, ride the St Charles streetcar each Twelfth Night to herald the start of the carnival season. At 6:30, the PPP and fans will gather at the Willow Street Car Barn, and at 7pm, the Carnvial Countdown and cutting of the ribbon takes place, then the masked and costumed Phellows, will board the streetcar. They will ride the St. Charles Ave. Streetcar Route to Canal. and conclude at Willow Street Car Barn.

opens in a new windowJanuary 6, 2019 – Société Des Champs Elysée Parade
A newer Krewe, the Société Des Champs Elysée Parade will start at 7:30pm at North Rampart Street and Explanade Avenue on the Rampart – St. Claude Avenue Streetcar, and, if the timing is right, will pass by the PPP as they roll along!
