When you’re visit to New Orleans includes staying at 1896 O’Malley House Bed and Breakfast – check out the Old U.S. Mint built in 1835 on the old Fort St. Charles site in New Orleans. This is known as the only mint to have produced American and Confederate money, and produced coinage from 1838 until Louisiana succeeded from the Union in 1861. It was the only southern mint to reopen after the Civil War, resuming full production from 1879 through 1909.
Currently, the Mint also serves as a musical venue offering a recording space, web streaming, music related exhibits, and performances.
