It’s time for Tricks & Treats, Ghouls and Goblins and a Ton of Scary Fun in New Orleans! No city loves Halloween like NOLA. We have the best events, the scariest haunted houses and the best costumes in the country! Just as the revelry surrounding Oktoberfest is starting to wane, the spookiest night of the year approaches, and the thought of dressing up to go out on the town starts to take shape.

For only 12 more nights this month, you can enjoy (or maybe, endure?) what the Travel Channel called “The Most Intense Haunted Attraction” at opens in a new windowThe House of Shock Horror Show. This incredible scarefest takes place in a 25,000-square-foot haunted attraction that takes you through Bordello of Freaks, Laff in the Dark & The House of Shock Haunted House. Since this is New Orleans, OF COURSE they have a full service bar, food and live music. Another amazing experience awaits at opens in a new windowThe Mortuary – a haunted house held in a REAL haunted Mansion! This freak show takes place at the large Victorian mansion at the end of Canal Street – a former mortuary,surrounded by the famed “Cities of the Dead”. The house is home to at least nine ghosts.

Whew, let’s take a breath –

If you want something a little more tame, or appropriate for the kiddos for Halloween season, head over to opens in a new windowBoo at the Zoo at the world-famous Audubon Zoo. Held for four nights from 5-9pm, this sweet event is for the littles up to age 12, and features trick-or-treat houses with candy, a Ghost Train, a (not terribly) haunted house, games and entertainment.

On October 22nd, enjoy a more family friendly option with the famous opens in a new windowKrewe of Boo Halloween parade down the Vieux Carre. Absolutely fantastic floats will roll, with excellent throws – all collectible or consumable – and NOT just for kids! All day leading up to the parade, take part in the Frenchmen Street Pre-Party, with live music and makeup artists and all the parade merrymakers. After the parade, grown-ups can head to the Howlin’ Wolf for the Monster Mash after-party.

Of course, the fun is not limited to the LBGT crowd – being some of the most inclusive people you will ever meet, everyone is welcome to take part in the booty hunt. The entire extravaganza benefits Project Lazarus, a health care and support services home in New Orleans for men and women with HIV/AIDS. In its previous 32 years, Halloween has raised over five million dollars for this important cause.

What would a month in the Crescent City be without a huge music festival? 2016’s opens in a new windowVoodoo Music + Arts Experience is held Halloween weekend, October 28-30, at City Park. Over 65 acts will play over the three days, accompanied by an immersive large-scale art installation. The “ opens in a new windowForked Up Food Court” will have 20 local food trucks and booths, offering food for everyone – local favorites served up in so many different ways – be you vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, or whatever, you need not leave hungry!
