You might think that because the summer heat is about to descend that New Orleans would be bereft of fun stuff to do – that couldn’t be further from the truth! Here are six great things to do while visiting NOLA in June 2017:

1. opens in a new windowNew Orleans Oyster Festival
   The French Quarter is known (among other things) as “The Oyster Capital of the World”. Be at Woldenburg Park on June 3rd and June 4th from 10:30am to 8pm for oyster slurping, shucking and celebrating. There will be crafts, contests, live music and cooking demonstrations. Admission is free.

   June 9th-11th will see the biggest and most fabulous Pride weekend ever. Friday night is the FiredUP Dance Party – costumes are encouraged and tickets are necessary! Saturday will feature PrideFest Rally at Mags 940 in the Faubourg Marigny – admission is free, with live performances, impersonators and giveaways. After the party, the Pride Parade will roll through the French Quarter, starting at 7:30pm. After parties will be hosted at several clubs Saturday Night. Sunday is Family Equality Day at Longvue House & Gardens.
3. opens in a new windowFrench Market Creole Tomato Festival
   The same weekend as Pride is the famous Tomato Festival, held the 10th-11th at the French Market. Sample delicious, distinctive Creole tomatoes from 8am-5pm, while enjoying a Second Line, cooking contests and demonstrations, a parade, live music and local farmer’s booths. Admission is free for this family-friendly event.

   Styled as “The Ultimate Girlfriend Getaway,” Festigals takes place at various venues throughout downtown New Orleans, June 22nd-24th. Some of the many events include the Leadership Conference, Bodacious Bras for a Cause Luncheon & Auction, the Bodacious Bra Challenge and the Stiletto Stroll. Tickets are required.
5. opens in a new windowLouisiana Cajun-Zydeco Festival
   Louis Armstrong Park hosts the incredible music festival June 24th and 25th from 11:30am – 6:30pm. Multiple artists of the Cajun and Zydeco genres will perform, along with artisans displaying their beautiful and unique wares for sale. Food will be provided by 10 savory and 4 dessert vendors and will feature Louisiana cuisine like seafood, alligator, catfish and boudin (Cajun sausage). Admission is free.
6. opens in a new windowESSENCE Festival
   Last but not least by any means, the ESSENCE Festival runs June 29th through July 2nd and presents incredible performers and distinguished speakers as well as arts & crafts, and DJ Day Parties. 2017 performers and speakers include Diana Ross (yes, you read that right), Mary J. Blige, Rev. Al Sharpton and Maxine Waters. Tickets may be purchased for all or just some of the varied events.
