This year’s Jazz Fest, also known by its full name, opens in a new windowThe New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, will be held at the Fair Grounds Race Course on two weekends, April 28-30 and May 4-7. Jazz Fest is the largest and most widely-attended event in New Orleans other than Mardi Gras. The scope of the fest is enormous. There will be 11 stages with musical acts playing from 11am to 7pm each day.
Some of the incredible talent includes Stevie Wonder, Maroon 5, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Lorde, Snoop Dog, Harry Connick Jr. and so many more, with all kinds of different music – not just Jazz, although that is the focus.
Along with the music, you get a children’s area, more food vendors than you could visit in the whole festival, and things to purchase in three markets: the Congo Square African Marketplace, Contemporary Crafts and the Louisiana Marketplace.
A special part of the Fest this year is a cultural celebration of the deep historical ties between New Orleans and Cuba. At the Cultural Exchange Pavilion, experience a parade, artist demonstrations, culture exhibits, and of course, music!
1896 O’Malley House is the perfect spot for your Jazz Fest home base. We are a 15 minute streetcar ride from the inn to the Fairgrounds. You can also ride your bike in about the same amount of time and park it in the secured bike lot. You can rest assured that you will rest well and enjoy a lovely breakfast each day of your stay, then head out to experience all that Jazz Fest has to offer!
