It’s hard to believe that the decade is coming to a close and it’s already time to be planning for 2020 – a whole new year to look forward to and to get ready for the best times!

If you’re interested in Mardi Gras, but not quite ready to commit to the whole she-bang in February, a great time to visit is January 6th, also known as Epiphany, Three Kings Night, Twelfth Night, the night we get to eat King Cake, and the beginning of the festival season in NOLA.

There are several things to do on the 6th – and here is a list of them!

opens in a new windowKrewe of Joan of Arc – The Krewe de joan d’Arc celebrates their namesake’s birthday with a walking Medieval-style parade through the French Quarter, beginning at Jax Brewery at 7pm. This is a special year, as it is the 100th anniversary of the canonization of New Orleans’ unofficial patron saint, Joan of Arc – the parade will have 100 angels portrayed by 16-19 year old New Orleanians, a new St. Joan statue to be carried in classic medieval saint procession style on a litter with a canopy, and special 100th anniversary throws.

opens in a new windowSociété Des Champs Elysée – This group is unique, even for New Orleans, and go their own way – we’ll let them tell you about their plans for the 6th: “On January 6th 2020, at 7:30PM The Societé des Champs Elyseé will make its fourth Twelfth Night ride on the still new Saint Claude, Rampart & Loyola line. The festivities begin at CARNAVAL at 5PM with a performance by the White Star Line Orchestra led by Catie Rodgers. At 7PM, there will be a short second line to the Elysian Fields street car stop, led by the Elysian Brass Band and Big Chief Kevin Goodman & The Flaming Arrows,. Following a ride across Canal, past the Dome to Union Station, and all the way back to the end of the line at Elysian Fields, there will be a short perambulation back to CARNAVAL for a Masked Ball with music by Gina Forsyth’s Mid City Aces, and appearances by Dancing Man 504, and Al Johnson.”
