It’s September, when everyone is thinking of fall and that sort of “start-over” feeling we get from having started school at this time of year. It’s a great time to visit New Orleans, just because of that – kids are back in school and it’s cooling off a bit.

Another thing we are thinking of is Mardi Gras. You might think – it is WAY too early to worry about that, but it’s really not that far away. In 2017, Fat Tuesday is on February 28th- which is really only 5ish months away. If you want to have your pick of accommodations for Mardi Gras, you have to plan ahead. Most places have minimum stay requirements and bookings start up to a full year in advance! One additional thing we are thinking about is beer and brats. Fortunately, we are able to celebrate three weekends in a row, so you have options. opens in a new windowNOLA’s Oktoberfest takes place at opens in a new windowDeutsches Haus in the Rivertown section of Kenner on October 7-8, 14-15 and 21-22, from 4:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays from 1:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. Admission is $8 for 13 and over, 12 and under are free. There will be music, dancing, a 5k- hopefully before the beer and brats, a Daschund Dash, Stein holding competitions and of course, FOOD – brats, cheeses, Rotlkol, pretzels, cabbage rolls and so much more. And Beer- lots of beer and wine and Schapps. It’s going to be a great time.
